Ninety

Three friends. Two since birth. The other fifteen years late, but made welcome, a friendship generously shared. Three friends. Once they spent many hours together. Today, spread apart in houses and interests, visits are fleeting.
Together they sat down to dinner to celebrate a combined ninety years of life. Their conversation meandered through their friendship. Such history foils eavesdropping, with much implied and not said. They talked and laughed, ate and drank. They reminisced and spoke of the present and future. But there was no analysis, no evaluation – no need. There was a feeling of content joy, but not complacency. So many achievements, but still so many ambitions.
Three beautiful friends. Delicious food and fine wine a fitting celebration of friendships to be cherished. Thank you, the other two.
